This month Claims Associates is highlighting our Nurse Case Manager in Rapid City, John Schaefbauer. John has been working with Rehab Associates (a subsidiary of Claims Associates) for about 2 years. Because John has spent the majority of his adult life in the Rapid City area, he has very strong connections to the medical field and those individuals associated with it, as well as having his finger on the pulse of the culture in the area. This is very beneficial for his work as a Nurse Case Manager.
Prior to obtaining his Associates Degree in nursing, John had worked for GAB in Rapid City as an adjuster. He continued his career as an adjuster with United Fire & Casualty, handling claims throughout western SD.
John has lived in SD for the vast majority of his life and loves the opportunities SD has afforded him. He grew up in Mobridge, then went to school at USD. His first degree was a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. After spending some time employed by Arthur Andersen/Andersen Consulting in Minneapolis, he returned to SD, specifically Rapid City, and worked in the construction industry.
At one point in his young career he sold most everything he owned and moved to Winter Park, CO where he worked in the ski industry. Though that was temporary, today his hobbies still include skiing, mountain biking, camping, fly fishing and cooking.
John is married to Lori, and they have two grown children: AJ who is married and employed by the National Forest Service as an Assistant Center Manager in the Wildland Fire Dispatch Center in Rapid City; and Bobbi, his daughter, who is the Event Manager for Main Street Square in Rapid City.
