SD and IA held Workers’ Compensation Conferences

In June, team members from our Workers’ Compensation and Rehab Associates attended the 2019 SD Work Comp Summit at the Sioux Falls Convention center. This is an annual event attended by decision makers and professionals in human resources, safety, legal and medical fields; as well as claims adjusters, nurse case managers and insurance agents.

Attending from our office was Amy Kvernmo, Jennifer Andrisen Selzler, Kelly Rud, Kimberly Rausch, Nancy Almendinger, and Wendi Peterson.

Some of the sessions offered by the Summit include: ADA Considerations in Managing and Handling WC Claims; Medical Marijuana: Unidentified Risk Factors; Transitional Return to Work and Vocational Service Skills; Drug Testing in the Workplace Simplification; The Aging American Workforce; How Employers Can Help Curb The Addiction Crisis; Interplay Among FMLA, WC and State Laws; The DNA of Bad Faith; and Leading the Pursuit for Safety.

There was also a Panel Discussion on Working With Your Medical Provider and Insurance Agent to Manage the OSHA Log and WC Program; and an update from the Department of Labor and Regulation Deputy Secretary Hunter Roberts.

Of course the Summit also included time to interact with one another, network with each other during breaks and meals, as well as an Exhibit Show with a wide variety of vendors specific to these industry needs. Claims Associates and Rehab Associates also attended as an Exhibitor.

Jennifer Andrisen Selzler also attended the 57th Annual IA Workers’ Compensation Symposium held at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown June 13-14, 2019. This Symposium had some similar topics as the South Dakota Summit, with more specifics to IA. They also included Agency and Case Law Updates.

We thank all who attended for keeping our staff educated and current with what is happening in our industry.
